The club’s very own Margaret Campbell kicks off the new season with a talk entitled “Pictures from the Past”. Margaret will be using old photos to illustrate early photographic history and processes, also looking at places, travel, fashion and leisure in past years.

Lecture: ‘Creative Photography’
Speaker: Steve LePrevost FRPS MPAGB
Steven is a creative photographer and digital artist based in Guernsey, Channel Islands. He combines traditional photography along with a variety of art/craft and digital techniques. Steven has presented illustrated talks on his work both nationally and internationally. He has been awarded numerous gold medals in the Salon circuit.
Steven has a fellowship from the Royal Photographic Society and is a panel member for the visual arts distinctions and advisory section of the Royal Photographic Society. We are delighted to have him visit the club.

Lecture: ‘Stereoscopic 3D Photography’
Speaker: Denis Alyshev of QPCC
A true colour, stereoscopic projection of 3d slides taken in Russia, Japan, Switzerland, Sweden and Scotland using hand-made 3d projectors, polarised glasses and the silver screen. It’s not digital, all pictures were taken on Fuji slide film. It’s the only 3d slide show in Scotland.

Lecture: ‘Panel Work’
Speaker: Dave Hunt ABIPP ARPS and Gill Hunt
Former members Dave and Gill have kindly agreed to do a talk on their ARPS work ranging from fine art to landscapes to flora and figure work. They also do all their own printing and framing which they will talk about.
Margaret Campbell will kick off the evening with a brief talk on her recent panel submission.

Lecture: ‘Irene’s Images’
Speaker: Irene Froy FRPS, EFIAP, MPAGB, HonPAGB, BPE4
After a couple of years break we are delighted Irene and Gerry return to the club, where Irene will be showcasing her latest colour and selected monochrome images.
Irene describes herself as a pictorial photographer, with a leaning towards landscape, but has an interest in all types of photography. She lectures throughout the country and enjoys exhibiting in, and judging, National and International Exhibitions.
Irene now prints exclusively on Permajet art papers to obtain the fine art quality she desires in her pictures.

Lecture: ‘Holiday Snaps’
Speaker: Anne Greiner MPAGB and Rod Wheelans MFIAP FRPS MPAGB FIPF Hon.PAGB
After a long break, Anne and Rod re-visit the club to talk about photo travel. Anne & Rod are very successful professional photographers with a busy portrait studio – twice MPA Scottish Portrait Photographer of the Year – however they have never lost their amateur roots.
Between them they have nearly 3000 acceptances and over 200 Awards in National and International exhibitions. Both use Permajet paper and we will bring sample prints on various papers. They will be selling Permajet paper on the night at 20% less than the list price.

Lecture: ‘My work from Landscape to Fashion’
Speaker: David Stanton
David Stanton is a Glasgow based photographer. Working freelance allows him to work in the Beauty/Fashion, Editorial and Press Areas of the business, as well as producing landscapes for fine art buyers. He has been published in many magazines and newspapers, both locally, nationally and internationally. David has taught photography at HND Level and is presently teaching Advanced Photoshop techniques at the Glasgow Metropolitan College in Glasgow. We are delighted to welcome David to the club.

Milngavie and Bearsden 40th Anniversary Lecture: ‘Using my time machine’
Speaker: The Doctor
To celebrate the club’s 40th year we are delighted to have distinguished photographer and old friend to the club (The Doctor) Danny Beath, returns in his tardis to give a talk entitiled “Using my Time Machine”. The evening will be held at Kilrnardinny House and will cover a range of work from Danny’s portfolio from landscapes to candids to natural history. As you will know from Danny’s previous talks it will be an evening of supberb photography and entertainment. Please note, daleks will not be welcolme.
Danny has recently been commended in the garden photographer of the year and in the Wanderlust travel photographer of the year and has just been shortlisted in the final of the British Wildlife Photographer of the year awards.

Internal Night – The Competition Winners
After every competition we see the winning entries and then they are gone, never to be heard of again. At the request of members this evening aims to tell “the story” behind some of these successful images. We’ve heard it from judges, but now hear it from the photographers themselves – “the drama, the waiting, and the click of the shutter”. To make this evening a success, we need club competiton winners to volunteer to talk about their winning entries in print/ slide or digital format.

Lecture: ‘Moments in Nature’
Speaker: Ben Hall
We are delighted to have Ben return to the club to show more of his outstanding work. He be showing a selection of images, most of which have been taken in the past 12 months and will be talking about the techniques used and the stories behind the shots. Ben will also be including a series of images from his trip to Patagonia.
Ben has gained worldwide recognition as one of Britain’s foremost professional wildlife photographers. All of Ben’s photographs are true representations of what he saw. Ben’s images are sold world-wide through the following international agencies: Getty Images, RSPB Images, Alamy Images and Environmental Picture Library.
Ben is a regular photographic and editorial contributor to numerous photographic and wildlife magazines.

If you have some digital images you would like to share please bring them along but it is possible we will not have time to show them and that will be postponed to another night. Club member Gordon Saunders will, with audience participation, encourage members to take simple portraits then photoshop them until their mothers wouldn’t recognise them. There will be other inclusive activities so don’t expect to sit down much.

Lecture: ‘The Photography of John Edward Kerr Smith – Staff Photographer, John Brown Shipyard’
Speaker: Dr Bruce Peter
Bruce is a lecturer at the Glasgow School of Art and we are delighted to have him visit the club.
John Edward Kerr Smith (1929–92) was the chief staff photographer for the great Clydebank shipbuilder John Brown & Co. from 1950 to 1966, and later for the Upper Clyde Shipyards at Clydebank and Govan. In a career spanning almost a quarter of a century he photographed some of the most important ships to be launched on the Clyde, producing a stunning portfolio of ‘official’ photographs for documentary and promotional purposes as well as an extensive body of self-motivated work.

Speaker: David Yates
David has come along way since he first bought a box brownie from Woolworths for 6d. He has twice been the president of Smethwick Photographic Society and in 2007 was invited by Fotospeed to be one of their associates.
David tours extensively throughout the UK and Ireland giving lectures and judging competitions and we warmly welcolme him to our club to show colour and monochrome prints.

Lecture: ‘Scotland From Wellies’
Speaker: David Mould
Local photographer David got his first digital SLR in Spring 2007 and now spends much of his free time “waiting for the Light” in many of Scotlands most beautiful places. His body of landscape work is varied and stunning and it is great to have new face (discovered through flickr) visit the club.

The Robert Simpson Cup
This new annual competition, in memory of our late President, will allow members to enter up to four digital images. Each image will be marked out of five during its appearance on the screen. Three respected judges, from within the club’s own membership, will mark and comment on the entries. At the end of the evening the winning entrant receives the silverware. Any images – however old they are and however often they have appeared in any competition – may be entered providing they meet the usual format requirements for the club’s digital competitions seen in Rule 3.

Lecture: ‘Another Time Another Place’
Speaker: Leigh Preston FRPS EFIAP
Leigh holds two RPS Fellowships – gaining a pictorial distinction in 1988 and a Fellowship for photographic printing in 1999. He belongs to the ARENA group of photographers, based in Newbury. Leigh was elected a Salon member in 2000.
A best-selling book of his monochrome images, depicting Britain’s industrial landscapes, was published in 1993. He has have had several one-man exhibitions in London, Dublin, Manchester, Birmingham and Belfast.
