Milngavie and Bearsden Camera Club is a progressive and enthusiastic photographic society with 73 members, open to those with a keen interest in advancing their enjoyment and skills in photography. Club activities are centred on weekly meetings, held on a Tuesday evening between late September and April.  These normally take place in person at the Community Education Centre in Milngavie although occasional Zoom meetings take place during the season. For enquiries about membership, offers of lectures from experienced speakers, or comments, please read the About page and e-mail the club secretary. Alternatively, you can use the contact form on our ‘About‘ page. Any questions or suggestions for the website will be welcomed by the web editor.

Season Syllabus 2023-24

Under the management of our Syllabus Secretary Elaine Prior, a wide range of of new speakers and presenters have been secured and the new season is underway. For the coming season 2023-24 we will return to the pre-pandemic situation of meeting in person. Only a small number of lectures will be available on Zoom, that is, generally during some of the winter months or when distant or international speakers present via the internet .

MBCC Welcomes Guest Lecturer Colin Prior

On Tuesday 21st November, we were delighted to be joined by Scottish based and internationally acclaimed landscape photographer Colin Prior. His presentation was titled ‘Inspired – My creative influences shaped my own world’. Amongst other topics, it included his travels to the stunning Karakoram Mountains in Pakistan, his British Airways commissions together with the creative images in his ground breaking documentary book , Fragile – Birds, Eggs and Habitats. Later in the evening he gave members a preview into his current ongoing Scottish landscape project. Norman McNab wins Judges Choice at the 2023 Scottish Photographic Federation Annual Portfolios

Many congratulations to Norman for winning an SPF Judges Choice for his Mono Print – Kilchurn Church. Details of MBCC members who submitted commendations for there prints submitted for this year’s awards will follow shortly in the National Recognition section of the website.

A special mention must also go to Competitions Secretary David Ritchie. In addition to organising internal competitions, David has worked tirelessly on constructing our portfolio for these national awards over many years. David’s meticulous selection of current club images has ensured that MBCC is recognised in the upper echelons of Scottish Club Photography.

 

National Recognition for George Robertson

George recently entered the 2023 Shrewsbury Open Photography Exhibition a National Competition and part of the British Photographic Exhibition series. George had a total of 5 images accepted including one ‘Glacial River’ which was awarded a PAGB Silver Selector’s Medal. Well done George!
